Catherine's Annual Yuletide Musical Celebration Spotlights Community Volunteers

Her Royal Highness has organised her yearly Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have supported their local areas.

The large audience will enjoy a mix of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from performers including Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," wrote Catherine in a message before the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own steady comeback to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Performance and Potential

Guests arriving at the Abbey will be entertained by budding artists aided by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the former royal to increase availability of instrumental training.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been supported by the organisation, with funding assisting with equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in tonight's service.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now a student at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Sisterly Duo

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Attending the service will be representatives of different generations.

That will encompass young Saphia Turner, nine, recipient of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for community pantries.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Among the musical performers will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
