19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev won his maiden trophy for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a challenging period, winning just one match at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - caused him exiting of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-term coach Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought competitive win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt since that period of that year.

Success also means the Russian has achieved 21 titles at 21 different events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," said tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my child my daughter, because the first title I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, comprising in that event in the past months.

His counter-punching play style and recurring outbursts on court had caused commentators to wonder if his capacity to play at the top level was finished.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to approach the net and play positively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

He came back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, taking 4 of the last five games to take the lead.

The pair exchanged break points in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his first tour title, took control to create a third set.

Moutet rescued four initial opportunities in a tight final set before the Russian broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner clinched victory with a point at the net area, with Moutet incapable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
