Wimbledon Introduces Video Replay System in 2025.

The Championships court with video review system

The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in employing video review technology.

Replay systems will be launched at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.

Players are granted the right to challenge specific decisions made by the chair umpire, echoing the practice already in place at both the US Open and the Australian Open.

This innovation will be operational on Centre Court and Court One for the duration of the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles contests.

This move comes just a year after the AELTC implemented ELC, which terminated the 147-year role of line officials.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Competitors cannot to challenge the call of the ELC system, but they can ask for the official to re-examine other situations, including:

  • Whether a ball has double-bounced.
  • If a shot touched an opponent's racquet or person on the way past.
  • Potential hindrance at the conclusion of a point.

Notably, there is an unlimited number on the amount of reviews a player can request.

A Recent Example

A recent example occurred in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the video challenge against his opponent.

Draper admitted it was a tough situation for the official, but believed his rival had "used the regulations quite well."

The umpire viewed a replay and ruled the player was guilty of interference, granting the point to Medvedev.

Broader Adoption

This technology aren't exclusive to Grand Slams. It was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open this year.

Additionally, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have the system implemented at every one of its tournaments.

Additional Innovations

A further change at The Championships 2025 will be the introduction of graphical cues on scoreboards to support the verbal announcements from the ELC system.

This solves instances where fans have occasionally been uncertain if a ball was in or out.

Finally, with exactly a century of days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, the AELTC have further announced an increase in daily capacity at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
